Travel to Lausanne, Switzerland

As Switzerland’s fourth-biggest city and capital of the Canton of Vaud, Lausanne enjoys a privileged geographical location at the centre of Europe. It is easily accessible by train, car, boat and airplane, being situated near Geneva International Airport (50 minutes by train) and Zurich Airport (2 hours 30 minutes by train).  The old city has medieval, shop-lined streets, a 12th-century Gothic cathedral with an ornate facade and the 19th-century Rumine Palace, housing fine art and science museums.

Airports

Genève Aéroport (GVA), with 15,8 million passengers in 2015, including a high percentage of business travellers, has an extensive network of 142 direct destinations, 23 of which are intercontinental.
Zurich Airport (ZRH), also known as Kloten Airport, is the largest international airport of Switzerland and the principal hub of Swiss International Air Lines. It serves Zürich, Switzerland's largest city, and, with its surface transport links, much of the rest of the country.

Trains

Getting to Lausanne from Geneva Airport is best done by train; either the IR (Inter-Regio) or IC (Inter-City) train. All trains stop at the Geneva City Center station before continuing on to Lausanne.  Cost:  27 CHF (one way) and 54 CHF (return trip). For fare and timetable information, please visit the SBB website.
Getting to the University of Lausanne (UNIL) from the Lausanne train station is best done by taking the metro.  From the main entrance of the train station (on north side of train station, near track 1), you will cross the street to access the M2 metro at the station "Lausanne-Gare".  Take the M2 (direction "Croisettes") for one stop (descend at "Lausanne-Flon").  Take the stairs or elevator up one floor to switch to the other metro line, the M1 (direction "Renens-Gare") and travel six stops to "UNIL-Dorigny" to go to the Anthropole building or travel seven stops to "UNIL-Mouline" to go to the Geopolis building.  It takes approximately 20 minutes to from Lausanne main train station to the campus.
